Our story
by: Ryan Gannaway
Consciousness is a gift for humanity. We have the choice to live in harmony or separation with one another. Our world seems more keen to build walls than break them down. I am hopeful that one day we will realize the power of collective consciousness - and create a society built on community, environment, and prosperity for all. Both the darkness and the light of life inspires me to evolve and discover. I dream that one day a nature based economy will blossom and we will all have the opportunity to trade our talents and products for other services without the hinderance of capitalism. I do not know if this will be achieved in my lifetime, or my children's lifetime, but it is certainly worth striving for.

My spiritual journey started with a love of being in the mountains and has led me to the arts of gardening, yoga, taichi, meditation, and a simpler lifestyle. I feel that my business needs to align with my values. As an aspiring full-time gardener and adventurer, I know how difficult it is to make enough money with this philosophy. The competitive economy pushes us to work jobs for the sake of making money alone. Elk Mountain Farmacy is the external manifestation of an inner life that prioritizes health, wellness, and balance while including the realities of modern life.
Jake Sakson and I met in the lovely mountains of Marble, Colorado. Since then, we have spent our spring, summer, and fall in Paonia, learning how to garden, practicing tai chi, and growing on the spiritual path. In the winters we travel and find adventure. Jake and I have a dog, Sasha, and a cat, Pancho. We all lived in camper that we built on the flatbed of our truck for 2.5 years. Believe it or not, our first crock of kimchi rode with us through the west on a climbing road trip. When our business got too big for 80 square feet, we moved into a house of our own, and now we are working to transform a neglected half acre into a sustainable farmstead. We feel so blessed to have found a sanctuary in this wonderful community of Paonia, CO.
